Welcome to Teguise

Teguise also known in Spanish as La Villa de Teguise, is a village in the municipality of Teguise in the north-central part of the island of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. The town’s population is around 1700. It was the former capital of the Island until 1852.

Teguise village is a must see when visiting the island. It is steeped in history, and beneath the sleepy surface lies many beautiful shops and eateries. On Sunday it comes alive with the largest outdoor market.

The most unique shop in Teguise is The Emporium store, which houses the most eclectic collection of antiquities, furniture, clothing, craft materials, fabrics, rugs, gifts and more. It is simply unmissable.

  • Teguise Sunday Market

    Every Sunday from 9am till around 3pm, the whole village is taken over by the largest outdoor market on the island.
  • Castillo de Santa Barbara

    A hilltop castle which houses a pirate museum. Formally a strategic defense against pirates.

    An historic church where mass is still held regularly.
  • Casa-Museo del Timple

    A museum to this traditional string instrument. There is a great collection from around the world.
